Android stores network keys in a simple text file, which can only be read with root rights.
In addition, the software can be protected with a four-digit PIN code. This must be entered before the network key is displayed. The PIN code is stored with root rights and highlights the Android Data Delete App option. This protection only prevents the random display of the network key and only applies to that particular application! If you forgot your PIN code, you just need to delete a specific file / data with root explorer. Any smart foreigner who can manipulate this lock will also be able to directly read the WIFI configuration file, so this protection is quite sufficient.
All the other apps in the store cost no money, spy on your cell phone with unnecessary rights, or spam your notification line with full advertising. Important note for Samsung users: Some devices (mainly Samsung) do not store the network key more than plain text, but as a hash. This value cannot be returned as plain text! At the moment, I can't automatically detect these devices and the app only shows the hash as an action. Known devices are: Samsung Galaxy S3 / S4, Samsung Galaxy Note 2 / Note 3.
