This app is smooth as butter. It does not bloat like Go SMS and Handcent. There are so many great features, where do I start? good job! Beautiful looks just feel now material design colors. I never review apps but this one is amazing, nothing more to say! Best SMS messaging app so far.

The best free messaging alternative to the standard app on the Galaxy S4. SMS is fast and MMS group chat works perfectly too. I'm on Sprint (which supports MMS over WiFi) and Textra is the only 3rd party messaging app that works with MMS over WiFi! Also, it's free, without ads. But you should uninstall other SMS apps first because they may interfere with Textra. After I did that it was perfect.

basic. Beautiful. fast. Even the developers know their app is very good and free. Without exception, this is the best SMS/MMS alternative app I've ever used. As soon as it first launched, I fell in love. Upon launch, Textra automatically configures all technical elements within seconds. And the speed doesn't stop there. I have about 60k text messages. With my stock app I'd have to sit there and wait forever for various hiccups and loading and blah blah blah... I've tried every alternative SMS app I could find. Textra is the only one that handles all of them without missing a beat. It also allows you to customize settings for each contact. Bubble color, icon color, notification sound, vibration pattern, LED color... whatever I want. And it just works. You don't have to fight the app. Do yourself a favor and get Textra messenger now!

An excellent free alternative to stock messages. The program just works. You can set notifications, bubble colors, and even delivery reports by connecting. Highly recommended!

What's new in Textra SMS

PURE BLACK theme option added (+ bubble color option).
Added Textra Settings > Customize Notifications > During Phone Calls options.
Added the ability to send an "empty" message (some countries require this for top-ups, such as bus lanes). Press the space bar and then press the send icon.
Textra now works with most Bluetooth in-car messaging systems, so for example if your messages have been read by your car, Textra will now mark them as read and clear notifications.
