Application description

VLC media player is a free and open source multimedia player that plays most multimedia files as well as discs, devices, and network streaming protocols. It works well on Android and can play video and audio files, network streams and DVD ISOs. It also has advanced audio features such as an audio database, equalizer, and filters. Most importantly, it's completely free and contains no ads, in-app purchases, or spying. It is developed by passionate volunteers and all source code is available for free.

The VLC app for Android needs access to several permissions to ensure it works properly and delivers the required features. These permissions include:

Access device and application log: to read logs, analyze problems and improve application performance.
Access photos/media/files: To read and play various media files.
Access device ID and call information: To stop playing music during phone calls.
Access Other: To check network connections and hide parts of the broadcast when needed.

In addition, VLC needs some other permissions such as reading phone status and identity, reading and modifying the contents of USB storage, full network access, controlling vibration, preventing the phone from sleeping, changing sound settings, modifying system settings, and viewing network connections.

As for the Android TV app, it also needs permission to record audio for voice search using microphone, and receive ACTION_BOOT_COMPLETED to set recommendations on the Android TV launch screen.
