Application Description

In the previous post, I discussed Xposed and how to install it on various Android versions. Now, let's explore one of the incredible Xposed modules: "XinternalSD" (APK).

XinternalSD is an Xposed module that allows Android apps and games to redirect their data storage from internal storage to an external SD card (Micro SD).

In a prior post, I talked about the Foldermount app, which also moves app and game data (like OBB files) to an external SD card. The main difference between XinternalSD and Foldermount is that XinternalSD changes the app’s behavior, whereas Foldermount manipulates folders using symbolic links.

While XinternalSD is easier to use, it is limited to apps that support it. On the other hand, Foldermount is more complex but works across all apps.

How to Use XinternalSD to Move App and Game Data to an External SD Card:

XinternalSD redirects app access from internal storage (storage/emulated/0/) to an external SD card (storage/extSdCard/) by altering the behavior of the targeted app. For instance, if an app tries to read or write to a folder in internal storage, XinternalSD redirects the process to a folder on the external SD card.

This enables you to move large OBB files for games (such as HD games that are larger than 1GB) to the external SD card. For example, you can move them to the directory storage/extSdCard/Android/obb/.

System Requirements and Installation:

  • Operating System: Android
  • Prerequisite: Xposed framework installed
  • Tested on: Samsung Galaxy V (SM-G313HZ)

Steps to Redirect App and Game Data Using XinternalSD:

Requirements:

  • Xposed framework installed
  • Install the XinternalSD app (download link provided at the end)

Steps:

  1. Install the XinternalSD APK.
  2. Open the Xposed Installer app, tap on "Modules," and activate XinternalSD. Then, reboot your device.
  3. After the reboot, open the XinternalSD app, wait for it to load, and tap on "Enable for Apps."
  4. Select the games or apps you want to apply XinternalSD to.
  5. Optionally, reboot your device again (although, in my experience, this is not necessary).
  6. Now, run the app or game to check if it works.

List of Tested Games and Apps:

Based on my experience, most Android games work with XinternalSD. Here are some games I tested on my Samsung Galaxy V:

  • GTA Series (GTA III, GTA VC, GTA SA)
  • Final Fantasy (FFIII, FFIV)
  • FIFA (FIFA 14, FIFA 15)
  • PPSSPP (files redirected to storage/extSdCard/PSP/)
  • ePSXe (files redirected to storage/extSdCard/epsxe/)

Note: This module does not work with Angry Birds Transformers.
